320 Affordable Housing Units To Be Constructed In Kericho


It is all systems go for the construction of 320 units under the Affordable Housing Project at Majengo-Talai Estate in Kericho Town, where President William Ruto is expected to lay the Foundation Stone to mark the onset of Phase I of the mega project in the County.

Speaking during the handing over of the site to the contractor, the Kericho County Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo, said construction of the 320 housing units had officially begun ahead of the laying of the foundation stone by the Head of State.

The County Commissioner further said the contractor would pull down the structures in the land and clear the bushes as a matter of priority, then erect a fence around the construction site.

Mr Kitiyo said that youth within Kericho Town equipped with various building and construction skills would benefit from the AHP by getting jobs since the contractor would source manpower locally.

‘The State Department for Housing plus our local committee have officially handed over the construction site to the contractor
who is starting the project with immediate effect and we hope that by next week, the project will be ready for commissioning and laying of the foundation stone,’ said Mr Kitiyo.

Meanwhile, Mr Kenneth Owigo, the contractor and Head of Projects for PADAA Enterprises Limited assured that the construction would be executed with excellence as required by the government.

The contractor added that the work would commence with the planning, surveying, and fencing before the laying down of the foundation stone.

‘The construction of the 320 units consisting of one-bedroom houses, two and three-bedroom houses for affordable housing, and social housing units will also have one and two rooms. In addition to that, shops will also be part of the 320 units to be built,’ said Mr. Owigo.

The Affordable Housing Programme (AHP) is a priority initiative by the National Government that targets the delivery of decent and affordable housing to low and middle-income households.
