Angola and Cuba signed Monday in Luanda three new legal instruments aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation between the countries, as part of the Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel’s visit to Angola.
These are the Memorandum of Understanding on the sectors of Tourism, Memorandum between the Medicines Regulatory Agency (ARMED) and the State Control Center for Medicines, Equipment and Medical Devices in Cuba.
The countries also signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the promotion of investments between Luanda/Bengo Special Economic Zone development society and the Mariel Office.
During a ceremony, attended by the Presidents of Angola João Lourenço and Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel, the minister of Culture and Tourism Filipe Zau, the director of the Medicines Regulatory Agency Katila Mangueira, and the CEO of the Special Economic Zone Manuel Francisco Pedro and the Cuban ambassador to Angola Esther Gloria Armenteros Cárdenas signed the three documents.
Prior to the signing ceremony, the two Statesmen met in private, during which they addressed and envisaged actions for closer bilateral relations in the political, economic, diplomatic, commercial, social and cultural sectors.
Angola and Cuba maintain excellent cooperation relations in areas such as security, education, health, transport, public works, construction, oil, sports, culture, tourism and agriculture.
The two States established diplomatic relations on November 15, 1975, four days after Angola’s independence, and a year later they signed the General Cooperation Agreement, which gave rise to the Bilateral Commission.
