The Secretary of State for Planning, Milton Reis, said today, in Luanda, that the Government wants to invest in the diversification of the economy, valuing and enhancing human capital to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the Agenda 2030.
Milton Reis, who was speaking at the usual briefing of the Ministry of Economy, stressed that the commitment is part of the axes of the Long-Term Strategy-Angola 2050, which also includes the greatest investments in modern and competitive infrastructure, resilient, sustainable ecosystems, a fair nation with equal opportunities.
According to the Secretary of State, the way to accelerate the implementation of the SDGs ‘is to be firm in the implementation of the projects we have designed’.
In his opinion, it is important to bring partners, the private sector, academia, so that ‘we all work to be aligned in the achievement of the SDGs. This is the only way we will not leave anyone behind, as the commitment is not only from the Government but also from civil society, the private sector and cooperation partners.
Milton Reis recalled the participation of the Minister of Economy and Planning in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (2023), from 19 to 22 September 2023, during the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
The event was held under the motto “Rebuild trust and renew global solidarity, through actions to accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda to achieve peace, prosperity, progress and sustainability for all.”
It served to adopt a concise and targeted final political declaration to accelerate international action to improve people’s lives and reinvigorate the sense of hope and enthusiasm that characterized the adoption of the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda.
The summit also saw the active participation of SDG advocates, independent groups of scientists, international financial institutions, representatives of the private sector and civil society, who provided a realistic picture of what has been achieved, what needs to be done to restore credibility in the promise of sustainable transformation.
At the event, participants also shared experiences, challenges and lessons learned on topics related to the most effective and inclusive recovery measures to manage the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and political guidelines for full implementation of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs in all sectors.
