Baham: Gendarmes recover FCFA 10 million from suspected banditsAngola is an important niegbhour: Ndeitunga

West region have recovered the sum of FCFA 10 million from eight suspected armed bandits they nabbed and presented to the public on January 10, 2024.

Three vehicles and 35 cartons of phytosanitary items were also confiscated from the suspects.

‘The three vehicles seized from the eight criminals include a Rav 4 jeep, Toyota corolla, and a pickup,’ Captain Mbouinz Daniel declared.

The suspects are accused of burgling several homes in different localities including Baham, Bamena, Bangou and Bangangte , depriving them of their money and possessions. They were arrested following a tipoff from an anonymous informant.

‘They had a special modus operandi. An inmate at the Bafoussam Central prison calls and gives them potential homes and directives to get inside for the operation. One of them goes to familiarize himself with the chosen home. Once that is done, they regroup and carry out their operation. Once they get you, they force you to transfer all the money in your phone into their account,’ Fotio Romuald , A
ssistant commander of the Baham gendarmerie company explained.

Also seized from the suspects were five matchets, two nail pullers, arms and munitions.

The Senior Divisional Officer for the Upper Plateau division, Ebelle Ernest Samuel, saluted the relentless efforts of the gendarmes to fight against banditry and criminality.

He as well encouraged the population to continue giving a helping hand to the forces of law and order, responsible for their security and protection of properties.

WINDHOEK: Angola is still Namibia’s important sister country, said Ohangwena Governor Sebastian Ndeitungu, who also urged the border regions to stay friendly with the northern neighbour.

Speaking to Nampa on Thursday, the former police chief said that Ohangwena and other border regions must maintain a good relationship with Angola.

‘Angola is a very important neighbour and sister country. Not only Ohangwena should have a good relationship with Angola. The whole of Namibia, including all the bordering regions, should promote friendship and good neighbourliness with Angola. Our relationship with Angola should be closer than ever. It should be the closest friendship that promotes trade and commerce as well as political relationships,’ Ndeitunga said.

He added that Angola has been a trench for the revolution in Southern Africa, which led to the liberation of Namibia and other countries in the region, including South Africa.

‘Therefore, all of us, not only Ohangwena, have to take off our hats before Angola for
their assistance when we were fighting for our liberation,’ he said.

The retired police chief-cum-politician was speaking ahead of a high-level visit to Ohangwena by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for International Relations and Cooperation, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, and Angolan Minister of External Relations, Ambassador Téte António, on Friday.

Ndeitunga said the joint visit to the Ohangwena Region and the Cunene Province of Angola is a working programme between the two senior ministers.

He said the meeting between the two ministers that will start in Ondjiva, southern Angola, will be concluded at the Helao Nafidi Business Expo Centre. Nandi-Ndaitwah and António will also address the issue of Namibian farmers with livestock grazing in Angola, Ndeitunga said.

Ndeitunga said the joint visit follows the goodwill visit by Nandi-Ndaitwah to Angola in October 2023, where it was resolved for the Cunene Province and Ohangwena Region to reaffirm peaceful co-existence, particularly with respect to Namibian farme
rs who have their cattle grazing in Angola.
