BAMENDA: A serious allegation of rape has emerged in Bamenda, North West region, concerning a 16-year-old girl who was reportedly assaulted by her aunt's boyfriend. The incident allegedly took place on December 31, with claims that the suspect intoxicated the girl before committing the act.According to Cameroon News Agency, a source who requested anonymity revealed that the girl's aunt discovered the suspect in the act and promptly reported the incident to the military stationed in the Ngongham neighborhood. Despite this, the suspect reportedly managed to escape before being apprehended by military personnel.Documents obtained by Cameroon News Agency indicate that the victim received medical treatment at Bamenda Regional Hospital. She was provided with necessary medication and her treatment was documented in a hospital book. However, it is alleged that the hospital results were taken from the victim's family and given to the suspect's family by the military, raising concerns about the handling of the case .The victim's family has expressed dissatisfaction with the military's actions, accusing them of releasing the suspect, identified as Nde Christien, due to alleged bribery. They also report financial difficulties that have prevented them from obtaining necessary follow-up counseling for the victim, compounded by the lack of official hospital documentation confirming the rape.The family is actively seeking support to hold the suspect accountable. The source further alleged that the suspect confessed to the crime and was beaten at the military barracks before being released. Observations noted by the source included military personnel involved in the case wearing T-shirts with the inscription "BIR."
