The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Buea, Monsignor Michael Miabesue Bibi has issued a letter of invitation to Christians of voting age to register, vote and for electoral facilitators to be fair and objective.

The local ordinary of Buea, penned this in a pastoral letter on May 19, 2024, observed as Pentecost Sunday in Christendom. The day Christians commemorate the descend of the holy spirit on Jesus’ followers in Jerusalem.

Bishop Michael Bibi observed that there is a high rate of voter apathy. He, however, called on the faithful not to relent in their responsibility of shaping the future by its elected leaders.

‘The future and destiny of a country is the collective responsibility of its people. This is particularly true of Christians, who are not only bound by a civic responsibility but also by a moral obligation to participate in the state’s life, which includes exercising the right and duty to vote,’ the Bishop preached.

On the other hand, he called on facilitators of the el
ectoral process to ‘recognize, with the fear of God, the even greater responsibility that falls upon them, to protect the fairness and transparency of the entire electoral process, respecting the common will of voters.’

Overall, the prelate invited all to prayerfully yield throughout the electoral process giving fore to their consciences while reminding those around them to do the same.

The Bishop’s call comes a few months before the closing of electoral rolls and eventual elections by 2025 in Cameroon.
