In a dramatic session, the Bomet County Assembly voted to impeach three high-ranking County Executive Committee (CEC), members following allegations of gross misconduct.The impeached officials include Andrew Sigei (Finance, ICT, and Economic Planning), Eric Kipkoech Ngetich (Roads, Transport, and Public Works) and Dr. Joseph Kipngetich Kirui (Administration, Public Service) and Special Programmes.The decision followed an investigation by an Adhoc Committee set-up by the Assembly to probe the allegations against the three officials.According to the Committee's findings, each CEC member was found guilty of various charges, ranging from constitutional violations and abuse of office to incompetence.A total of 29 out of 38 members of the Bomet County Assembly supported the Adhoc Committee's recommendations for the removal of CEC Sigei.His impeachment motion, which accused him of gross constitutional violations and incompetence, was tabled by Kimulot MCA Eric Kirui.Similarly, CEC Ngetich was also remov ed from his position after 29 members of the Assembly voted in favor of his ouster.He was charged with gross constitutional violations and abuse of office. The motion for his removal was presented by MCA Josphat Kipkirui.Dr. Joseph Kipngetich Kirui faced a similar fate, with 29 Assembly members backing his impeachment on all counts, including constitutional violations, abuse of office, and incompetence.His motion was tabled by nominated MCA Vincent Mutai.Notably, the trio did not appear in person during the impeachment hearings. Instead, they were represented by their lawyer, Desmond Leteipa.The impeached officials have the right to appeal the decision, though the Assembly's strong stance may signal a commitment to stringent oversight in the future.The political landscape in Bomet County now faces a period of transition, as new appointments are anticipated to fill the vacated CEC positions.Source: Kenya News Agency
