In a bid to enhance security, attract investors, and support local business activities, the County Government of Bomet has launched a comprehensive streetlighting installation project across Bomet town and various trading centres throughout the county.A statement from the office of the governor outlined the ambitious scope of the initiative, highlighting its multifaceted goals.'This project seeks to enhance and protect business activities, attract new business opportunities and investors, and provide security to the residents of Bomet County,' the statement read. 'We are installing and maintaining streetlights and high-mast floodlights in Bomet town and all our trading centres across the county,' the statement continued.The pilot phase of the programme commenced at Kapkoros Trading Centre in Chesoen Ward, Bomet Central, demonstrating the county's commitment to modernising its infrastructure to meet contemporary standards.Furthermore, the governor's office disclosed collaborative efforts with the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) to maximise transformer usage, ensuring more households in Bomet are connected to electricity.'We have also entered into a transformer maximisation partnership with REREC that will see several Bomet households connected with electricity,' the governor affirmed.The initiative comes in response to recent security challenges that have impacted local businesses and investments in Bomet. By illuminating streets and public spaces, the county aims to create a safer environment conducive to economic growth and development.The project, which kicked off this year at Iria Maina in Boito Ward, Konoin, is set to expand progressively across the county, bringing much-needed illumination to previously underserved areas.Residents and business owners have welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism about its potential to transform the nighttime landscape of Bomet and bolster community safety.Source: Kenya News Agency
