Chaos erupted last night with sporadic attacks around Malingo ( Muea stretch of road) Checkpoint and the Buea central market.Residents who first heard the sound of gunshots said they thought it would be the usual one minute scare shots, but when chunks of smoke filled the air, they knew danger was looming.Several people are said to have been shot, but CNA was only able to see the corpse of one man called Derrick Musonge.Other sources talk of close to half a dozen victims dead. Several persons were also injured with bullet wounds. At least three cars were set on fire. The Bokwai junction around the Buea central market was messy since it is a bit outskirt of the town.No separatist group has claimed responsibility but locals think they attacked those who were plying the road on Monday, a day reserved by the Separatists for civil disobedience- characterising of no circulation, no businesses and only essential services offered in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon.Monday night's shooting was the first in Buea this year 2024. Local authorities have not reacted yet.Source: Cameroon News Agency
