The Technical, Vocational, and Educational Training (TVET) sector is currently implementing competency-based education curriculum training (CBET) in their institutions to ensure that learners are fully skilled, State Department for TVET principal Secretary Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria has said.
Dr. Muoria said the curriculum will ensure that the learning institutions churn out graduates who will form a well-equipped and skilled workforce by learning 50% theory and 50% industrial training skills.
Dr. Muoria said on Tuesday in a speech read on her behalf by Makueni County Director In Charge of TVET John Wamae during the official launch of the Makueni Agricultural Training Centre (MATC) technical and vocational college at Kwa Kathoka in Makueni Subcounty.

ing; this programme will ensure that our institutions churn out graduates that industries are eagerly waiting for,’ said Muoria.
She said the department is working in partnership with industrial experts and stakeholders to ensure the curriculum remains relevant and aligned with the evolving needs and demands of the industry.
Dr. Muoria lauded the training centre that will equip the learners with skills and knowledge needed for the sustainable development of the agricultural sector.
‘We not only aim to develop technically skilled individuals but also foster a spirit of entrepreneurship and creativity by nurturing the students to become changemakers, innovators, and leaders in agriculture,’ she noted.
‘The centre will also benefit the community by providing agricultural solutions, unlocking opportunities for sustainable growth, and enhancing food security while contributing to the overall progress of our nation,’ she added.
Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo junior said the training centre is a key pillar in
sustainable agricultural production development in the area by providing learners with hands-on experience in crop production, livestock management, and agribusiness management skills.
‘Together with our partners, we will refurbish and equip the institution and provide trainees with seed capital support to start their business,’ said Mutula.
‘The opening of this college signifies our commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity through facilitating the skill improvement and social development of youth and adults,’ said Mutula.
He called upon TVET to extend a capitation fund to the institution to support the institution.
The college has 60 students doing various courses, including horticulture, dairy, poultry management, aquaculture, and apiculture, and is targeting to build capacity for 420 farmers in organised groups weekly on improving their agricultural production on their farms.
