Chinese investor tests new rice seed in southern Angola

The aim is to seek to improve and achieve the recommended yields of seven tonnes per hectare, the company’s director Zhou Jianhua said on Monday.

He said he expects an increase in production with the new seed.

300 hectares are prepared for the next season that starts in January 2025. Production levels will gradually be increased until the 514 hectares available are covered.

The municipal administrator of Matala, Manuel Machado Quilende, who visited the enterprise, highlighted the importance of the work that has been developed by the company ‘Olombi Agro-negócios’.

He recalled that in the last agricultural season this company produced more than two thousand tons of rice that were sold in the main markets of the municipality and in other provinces.

He maintained that the country has been working on public incentive policies to increase production and rice is part of the basic food basket, so all institutional support is necessary.

In the last agricultural season, it explored 250 hectares exclusively for
rice production. The farm is set in an area of 514 hectares, whose project is aimed at the production of this cereal, since 2013.

The Leijun-CA Farm has close to 300 national workers.
