County Deploys AI-Enabled X-Ray Machine in Konoin for Enhanced TB Diagnosis

Bomet: Residents of Konoin in Bomet County are set to benefit from modern screening and imaging services after Governor Prof Hillary Barchok launched a modern AI-enabled X-ray machine at Cheptalal Sub-County Hospital in Embomos Ward, Konoin Sub-County. The installation and commissioning of the new machine were done with support from PEPFAR, HJFMR, and the Walter Reed Project.

According to Kenya News Agency, the unveiling of the equipment marks a significant milestone in the fight against Tuberculosis (TB), a disease that remains a serious public health concern. The new digital X-ray machine, which utilises advanced automated technology and pre-installed Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) software, is poised to revolutionise the county’s screening efforts.

‘The precision of this AI-enabled X-ray equipment in interpreting images enhances diagnosis, speeding up treatment and minimising further transmission of the disease. It is also portable, allowing us to take it to TB hotspots and remote areas, bringing diagnosis closer to the people,’ said the governor.

These latest developments underscore the commitment by Governor Barchok’s administration in ensuring that Bomet residents have access to quality healthcare services without having to travel outside the county as espoused in the national government’s Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
