County Police Commanders Collaborate with ORPP for Peaceful By-Elections

Lower kabete: Nineteen County Police Commanders (CPCs) held a productive consultative meeting with officials from the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) at the Kenya School of Government in Lower Kabete. The engagement, sponsored by The Oslo Centre, an independent non-profit organization that promotes democratization and good governance, aimed to strengthen collaboration between security agencies and political institutions in preparation for the upcoming by-elections.

According to Kenya News Agency, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Douglas Kanja, was represented at the meeting by the Director of Corporate Communication and Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Muchiri Nyaga. In his remarks, Mr. Nyaga thanked the ORPP and The Oslo Centre for organising the meeting, noting that such engagements provide valuable lessons in fostering cooperation between security organs and political institutions.

Mr. Nyaga encouraged all County Commanders to familiarize themselves with the mandate of the ORPP, highlighting the collaborative duty to work together in a multi-agency approach to ensure that political parties operate within the confines of the law. He warned that failure to uphold this mandate could lead to violence, instability, and a breach of peace, urging officers to remain alert and proactive.

The Deputy Registrar of Political Parties for Compliance and Regulations, Mr. Ali Abdullahi Surraw, who represented the ORPP Chief Executive Officer, expressed gratitude to The Oslo Centre for its continuous support in promoting democratic governance. He commended the security personnel for their commitment and professionalism in safeguarding the country, emphasizing their role as custodians of democracy who ensure a peaceful and stable environment.

Mr. Surraw further urged security officers to heighten vigilance and ensure that law and order prevail as the country prepares for 24 by-elections scheduled for November 24, 2025. Also present at the meeting were The Oslo Centre Country Director, Ms. Phoebe Mungai, ORPP Director of Compliance and Capacity Building, Mr. Daniel Kinuthia, and ORPP Deputy Director of Partnership and Resource Mobilisation, Ms. Beatrice Nderi, among other guests.
