Kisumu County has procured equipment to help in the management of solid waste in the area.Through the initiative, some 140 bins and over 20 skip loaders will be deployed at strategic points within the city to aid in waste collection.City Manager Abala Wanga said the move targets to tame the wanton disposal of waste in the city and, at the same time, create employment for the youth.Speaking during the launch of the programme, Wanga cautioned area residents against the careless disposal of waste, adding that those who fail to make use of the facilities will be arrested and prosecuted. The city management, in collaboration with partners, he added, has developed a robust waste-to-wealth programme to ensure that all the solid waste collected and dumped at the Kasese dumpsite is converted to other products to generate income. He said that every 10th of the month has been designated as a tree planting and cleaning day in Kisumu, urging area residents to turn up in large numbers for the exercise.Source: Ke nya News Agency
