The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), in collaboration with the Uasin Gishu County Government, is working on an initiative aimed at developing a revised curriculum to cater for immediate and effective interventions in the animal sector. On Wednesday, the Department of Agriculture hosted WOAH for a stakeholder meeting with participants drawn from various sectors, such as dairy cooperatives, private and public practitioners, as well as agrovet traders. The primary objective of the initiative is to enhance veterinary services in the county, ensuring that necessary interventions and technical assistance can be efficiently planned and executed by WOAH. Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Philip Biama, said the curriculum aims to address critical challenges in the animal sector, promoting the overall health and well-being of animals. According toDr.r Biama, a collaboration between WOAH and the Department of Agriculture marks a significant milestone in efforts to improve animal welfare and veterinary services. He highlighted the commitment of both organisations towards ensuring the highest standards of care for animals, as well as the sustainability of the agricultural industry. Sonia Fevre, the Programme Manager, together with Dr. Simon Kihu, a Programme Officer from WOAH, said the curriculum will focus on an immediate and effective standardised and comprehensive approach to animal welfare. Sonia said the approach will ensure that individuals working in the animal production sector are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to address the challenges in the sector. They furthermore said that the curriculum will prioritise practical training and hands-on experience to ensure that individuals can apply their knowledge effectively in real-life situations.
