CS Owalo Presides Over ICT Performance Contracts

Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary (CS) Mr. Eliud Owalo on Wednesday presided over the signing of Performance Contracts for senior officials under his docket. The brief ceremony at Teleposta Towers saw the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Principal Secretary, Prof. Edward Kisiang’ani, put pen to paper on his contract for the Financial Year 2023/2024 before top officials of line state corporations followed suit. State Agency bosses including the board members from the Semi-Autonomous Government Agencies (SAGAs) under the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications presented their contract papers for signing. Others on tow for the crucial exercise were the Kenya Yearbook Editorial Board Chair Mr. David Sande Ayolo, Independent Board Member, Mr. Jimmy Mauta while the Postal Corporation of Kenya was covered by the Chairperson, Dr. Rose Ogendo Nyamunga and Board Member, Mr. Kennedy Enosi Butiko. The Communications Authority of Kenya was represented by the board’s Chairperson Ms. Mary M. Mungai who was flanked by a member Mr. Albert K. Koech. The CS also oversaw the signing of contracts by the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) Board Chair, Eng. Benjamin Maingi before his Kenya Institute of Mass Communication counterpart Mr. Charles O. Wahong’o ratified his performance deal. Owalo stressed that performance contracts were a critical roadmap for the ministry to realize her Strategic Plans, Work Plans and Goals for the 2023-2024 Financial Year. ‘We are looking forward to revitalizing KBC, POSTA, and KNA, as well as streamlining operations in the Media industry among other integral interventions, ‘ he said. He however challenged the heads of Parastatals to be innovative by coming up with transformative strategies that guaranteed the success of the objectives and targets of their respective organizations. Prof. Kisiang’ani on his part asked the parastatal bosses to focus on the timelines of their primary mandates to ensure that the government’s projection to operationalize and make the Digital Superhighway Agenda in Kenya a reality. Also in attendance were CA Acting Director General Christopher Wambua, and his KIMC counterpart Peter Wakoli, Post Master-General, Mr. John Tonui, and Media Council of Kenya (MCK) CEO, Mr. David Omwoyo. Information Secretary, Ms. Judy Munyinyi, and Broadcasting and Telecommunication Secretary of Administration, Ms.Juliana Yiapan were also present.
