Nakuru County is set to operationalize the integrated emergency and disaster management plan to mitigate against unforeseen calamities.
The County Executive for Public Service and Management, Mrs. Jacqueline Osoro said the Directorate of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance has partnered with Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation to deal with emergency healthcare services and public safety in the County.
Mrs. Osoro who also Chairs the emergency preparedness committee said that the County is strengthening healthcare systems and saving lives through a centralized approach to County emergency operations related to disasters.
The partnership engagement meeting was attended by several Executive Committee Members, Chief Officers, and Ms. Emily Nyagaki, Director of Programs at Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation.
While addressing the County staff, Ms. Nyagaki said the Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation (EMKF) is an NGO founded in 2015 by local healthcare professionals to support governments and emergen
cy healthcare providers across the Country. The major role is strengthening the emergency healthcare system through capacity-building, knowledge development, advocacy, and research.
On her part, the Chief Officer for Disaster and Humanitarian Assistance, Ms. Joyce Ncece emphasized the critical need for training, and capacity building for the Emergency Medical Support team, ambulance drivers, and community health promoters.
During the meeting, Ms. Ncece appealed to the residents to take precautions and advance home safety measures to reduce the numerous fire disasters that have been experienced in the recent past.
Mrs. Osoro underscored the County’s commitment of scaling up public awareness as part of preparedness, to empower the community with knowledge ensuring everyone knows how to access ambulance services and respond effectively in emergencies.
