Day one of the second term of the 2023-2024 academic year in Babadjou subdivision and its surroundings in the Bamboutos division of the West region was a timid one with a very low turnout in most schools CNA visited.At Government Technical High School Bamelo, less than 100 students were present out of the close to 1000 that the institution counts.At Government Bilingual High School Babadjou, College Polyvalent Aloys of Mbouda, less students were spotted with teachers grouped on campuses discussing. At Government Bilingual Primary School Babadjou Toumaka, the same remark could be made.'I have just two pupils as you can see. The children were not sent to school because maybe their parents returned home late,' a teacher told CNA.'Government made a huge mistake to schedule school resumption this day. We should have resumed on January 8,' a Headteacher told us.At Government Bilingual Primary School Bafemgha in Mbouda subdivision, the turnout too was low with just 36 pupils who answered present of the ove r 200 expected.'I was expecting over 200 pupils but just 36 are here. All the four teachers I was expecting have answered present. I don't know what to do. We'll be obliged to reschedule effective lessons for tomorrow hoping the children come given that this is a decisive term,' Mrs. Mafofou Fopa Leontine, Headteacher told us.The second term of the 2023-2024 academic year runs till March 28, 2024 and will be marked by many breaks such as the Youth day, bilingualism day and more.
