Embu: Jua Kali artisans in Embu Town from the Luo Nyanza community have appealed for a giant screen to be mounted at Moi Stadium to enable them to follow the burial of former Prime Minister and ODM leader Raila Odinga on Sunday. The artisans, most of whom are mechanics, expressed their desire to attend the burial in Nyanza but were unable due to high travel costs. As a result, they requested the installation of a public screen to allow them to bid farewell remotely to a man they described as a champion of democracy, constitutionalism, justice, and equity.
According to Kenya News Agency, the artisans, led by their chairman, Rollingstone Njuki, appealed to leaders, including Governor Cecily Mbarire and Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku, to facilitate the mounting of the screen. Joshua Obong’o, one of the artisans, emphasized their wish by stating, ‘Given that most of us cannot attend the burial physically, we kindly ask our leaders to give us an opportunity to pay our tributes by following the proceedings live from here.’
The group also paid tributes to ‘Baba,’ praising his statesmanship, forthrightness, and leadership that inspired generations. John Ouma, another artisan, remarked, ‘We will dearly miss him, but his memory and spirit will live on through the values he championed-good governance, justice, and unity.’
