Esseme wins Rabat Marathon sets lofty goal for Paris 2024

After clinching victory in the Rabat Diamond league marathon race, Cameroonian sprinter Emmanuel Esseme has his sight set on the 2024 Olympic games in Paris.

During the Marathon race, he broke his previous record in the 100m with a run time of 10 seconds, 11 milliseconds .

Speaking after the race, Esseme revealed that his main objective is to keep fit before the Olympic games

‘I am very excited for this victory but the great day is coming, the Olympic games and I am working everyday to make sure I am at my peak before the games.’

Despite his ambitious aspirations, the athlete acknowledges that there are certain areas where he needs to improve. ‘ Normally I don’t always have a slow start when I race and only accelerate when I am about to reach the finish line, but my coach and I are already working on that’.

Emmanuel Esseme first represented Cameroon at the 2020 Olympic games in Tokyo and has since then participated in the 2019 world athletics championship where his journey ended at the quarter finals.

He also competed in the 2019 African games, missing out on a medal before securing gold in the 2023 edition.

Esseme’s impressive performance has earned him recognition, with President Paul Biya personally commending his achievements in the 2023 African games.
