Flood Victims To Get Food, Non-Food Items

Isiolo County Commissioner Geoffrey Omoding has assured area residents that the government will provide more food and non-food items to the flood victims.

Omoding said that already the government has distributed 300 bags of 50 kg of rice, 100 cartons of canned beef, 200 mattresses, 200 blankets, and 60 pieces of kitchen sets, among other items.

The administrator further added that the government has given out 1,000 iron sheets, 50 lighters, 50 jikos, 20 cartons of soap, and 50 cartons of sanitary pads to the most affected people, saying more support is on the way.

The county boss who spearheaded the resource mobilisation said that non-governmental organisations had chipped in to help in the distribution of food and cash transfers for 1000 households in Kinna, Ngaremara, and Merti.

Omoding said that Action Aid (K) has donated rice, maize flour, beans, and cooking oil to 30 households in Ngaremara ward.

He added that PACIDA, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) from Marsabit, targets to assist 243 househ
olds in the Merti and Ngaremara areas of Isiolo County with a monthly cash transfer of Sh10,000 per household.

The CC directed chiefs and their assistants to update and give the correct figures of the affected persons to the Assistant County Commissioners (ACCs) every evening so that his office would take appropriate actions.

The county boss said that so far, six people have lost their lives in Isiolo County following floods.
