The government will expand and equip technical and vocational training institutions at the grassroots to provide technical skills to graduates of the National Youth Service Programme, Public Service CS Moses Kuria has said.
He said his ministry, which is in charge of the NYS programme, is working with the State Department for Technical and Vocational Training and county governments to see how they can collaborate ‘to create mini NYS training camps in the TIVET institutions’.
Mr Kuria, who together with the Principal Secretary for Technical and Vocational Training, Ms Esther Mworia, paid a courtesy call on Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire this morning, was to later visit some of the 26 vocational training centres in the county to assess their needs.
Mr Kuria also disclosed that working with the Ministry of ICT and the Digital Economy they will be establishing digital hubs in each of the TVET institutions with a view to ensuring all the graduates can take advantage of the opportunities in the digital space.

Mworia said the country will be transformed by industrialisation and said her state department was keen to see to it that there was enough skilled manpower for the industrial takeoff.
She added that the government has decided to improve existing infrastructure instead of constructing new ones from scratch.
Governor Mbarire thanked the National Government for choosing to pilot the program in Embu and pledged her government’s full support.
