Traders running guesthouse facilities in Laikipia County have been cautioned to record and verify their clients’ details to deter harbouring criminals disguising as visitors. Laikipia County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri told KNA that some traders operating accommodation facilities in the county were harbouring crooks unbeknown to them. ‘This goes to traders engaged in the entertainment industry and especially those who own lodgings to keep proper records of their visitors. This will greatly help in enhancing security in our towns,’ said Kanyiri, noting that some individuals engage in suspicious activities after booking rooming facilities. The county commissioner said the bar owners too are required to install CCTV surveillance equipment on their premises to discourage incidences of people getting robbed after a night of merry making. ‘If possible, install CCTVs in your lodges, they will help us nab those involved in robbing clients after stupefying them through spiking of drinks, commonly known as kuweka mchele,’ he said. At the same time, the county commissioner cautioned residents against people disguising as officers from discipline forces with ulterior motives, noting that authorities were on high alert and those found culpable would be arrested. ‘There are people roaming in our towns’ chest thumping that they are from our security forces, they are not our officers, and they are imposters with intent to swindle you. Our officers are disciplined and can’t portray such behaviours. We are investigating and we will nab them,’ the administrator further said.
