More than 500 residents have benefitted from a free medical camp organised by the Homa Bay County Government in conjunction with AdventHealth, a US-based health care system.The camp which was set up at Kendu Adventist Hospital in Karachuonyo Constituency, aims at helping individuals who are unable to afford medical care services.According to the hospital's Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Pastor Philip Aloo Ghai, the 5-day medical outreach programme which commenced on Monday is set to run until Friday this week.The camp has 35 medical specialists, including surgeons, physicians, pediatricians, opticians and nutritionists handling different cases.The CEO said patients suffering from communicable diseases such as malaria are also being handled, adding that the region is highly prone to malaria infection.He disclosed that the hospital has set aside Sh200,000 in a programme aimed at helping vulnerable residents acquire NHIF cards which will aid in their medical treatment.'I am urging the public to show up in large numbers to be educated and get treated early so as to prevent further medical complications,' he added.The County UDA Party Leader Kennedy Obuya expressed his gratitude to the stakeholders, citing the Kenya Medical Supply Authority (KEMSA) who contributed to the success of the programme.One of the beneficiaries, Roselyne Opiyo who had visual impairment, also thanked the hospital's management for coming up with such an initiative saying it has helped many people, especially the poor.She affirmed that she received two eye glasses which she would not have been able to afford.Source: Kenya News Agency
