Mombasa: Residents of Imenti East Sub-County can now access government services with ease following the deployment of Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), James Khamisi Baya. The long-awaited move comes after prolonged complaints from the community for being sidelined in national programs, including the recent Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise.
According to Kenya News Agency, speaking during the official inauguration ceremony of the new DCC at Thuura headquarters, North Imenti MP, Rahim Dawood, said the new appointment marks a turning point for the region. “Residents will now benefit from enhanced security coordination, strengthened administrative functions, and better local governance. Areas that were previously underserved will now be fully integrated into the national administration structure,” the MP said.
North Imenti MP aspirant, Carol Karimi Muriuki, expressed optimism, stating the Sub-County’s operationalization would unlock economic potential and improve public service delivery. Renowned Politician Beatrice Karwitha echoed the sentiments, crediting the progress to the efforts of Deputy President, Prof Kithure Kindiki, during his tenure at the Interior Ministry. “This is a dream come true. The delays were due to limited resources, but now we are seeing the fruits of our leaders’ persistence. We must rally behind DP Kindiki and our MP to ensure we receive a fair share of national development,” she said.
Taking up his new role, DCC James Khamisi Baya, thanked the residents for the warm welcome and vowed to serve them diligently and with integrity and dedication. “Even before my transfer letter arrived, I was already being called by my in-laws telling me to prepare to take charge here,” he joked. “I am honoured by your warm welcome both from the area MP and residents. This responsibility is a debt I owe to the people of Imenti East. I will give my all to promote peace, stability, and efficient service delivery,” he said. Baya pledged to promote close collaboration among local leaders, chiefs, security agencies, and the community to ensure the success of his mandate.
Meru County Commissioner, Jacob Ouma, acknowledged the deployment was a result of high-level lobbying. “This achievement is from President William Ruto, Deputy President Kindiki, and the Interior Ministry. Let’s stop politicizing development. Support your leaders, and prepare for the grand opening of the Sub-County by DP Kindiki himself,” said Ouma. The operationalization of Imenti East Sub-County is expected to significantly boost access to national government services, improve infrastructure, and provide opportunities for local youth and underserved areas.
