Infant abduction foiled: Newborn safely reunited with nother in Yaoundé

A three-day-old infant abducted from a hospital in Ekoumdoum, was safely reunited with her mother after a swift intervention by medical staff and authorities.

The incident unfolded on Saturday evening when a woman, visiting a friend recovering from surgery, absconded with a newborn from the hospital crib of another woman who gave birth three days before.

Concerns arose when the baby’s temperature spiked, prompting the woman to seek medical attention at a nearby clinic.

Alerted by the woman’s evasive responses and inability to provide pertinent information about the child, a vigilant nurse promptly notified hospital administration. Law enforcement was immediately contacted, leading to the apprehension of the suspect at the clinic.

‘The nurse’s quick thinking and decisive action were crucial in ensuring the safe return of the infant,’ stated a security source.

The reunited mother, visibly emotional, expressed profound gratitude to the authorities and hospital staff for their rapid response. ‘I can’t descri
be the relief and joy of holding my baby again,’ she remarked tearfully.

Community members have since rallied around the family, offering support and celebrating the safe resolution of the ordeal.

Women stormed the Baptist hospital in Yaoundé where the child was stolen, dancing and singing glory to God.

The theft of this baby has also raised issues of security in hospitals. How did the woman escape from security vigilance?
