Kakamega High School has installed solar power to produce energy resulting in cost cutting on electricity bills to at least Sh130 000.The Principal of the school Julius Mambili noted that the school has been spending over Sh500, 000 on electricity bills every month.He said they were targeting to rely fully on solar power thereby reducing the cost to zero with electricity remaining as a backup.'We have also installed a battery where we will be storing enough power from the solar panels,' he noted.The solar will be used to provide lighting to classes, dormitories and across the school compound besides being used to boil water for students.'We will be able to boil at least 900 liters of water every morning for use by our students,' he said.Source: Kenya News Agency
