Kourwéogo: Members of the Kourwéogo provincial consultation framework held their first session of 2025 on Friday, July 11, 2025, in Boussé, focusing on the results of the reforestation campaign, the interventions of the Office for the Development of Evangelical Churches (ODE), and the progress of the activities of the mining company Nord Gold Niou SA. The High Commissioner of Kourweogo Province, Mahamadi Congo, invited participants to engage in discussions aimed at better directing development actions in the province.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the provincial directorate in charge of the Environment presented the outcomes of the “Patriotic Hour to Green Faso” campaign and National Tree Day 2025. Moussa Bourgou, a water and forestry officer, reported that 11,908 plants were planted on the Tangsèghin site, including species that provide non-timber and medicinal forest products.
Two other communications addressed the Support Program for Resilience and Innovation in Agroecology (PARI-GST), which i
s implemented in Gassan, Sourgoubila, and Toéghin. With a budget of 688.7 million FCFA, the project aims to bolster the resilience of vulnerable households against climate change. Project manager Yves Ouédraogo noted a physical execution rate of 99%, with an efficiency index of 1.10.
The mining company Nord Gold Niou SA shared updates on its establishment in the border area between the communes of Niou, Boussé, and Toéghin, covering 52.8 km². Bernard Sérémé, the communications officer, stated that the reserves are estimated at 20,233 tonnes of gold, with an 8-year exploitation projected to generate more than 50 billion FCFA. While compensation for land and related property has been completed, compensation for graves, fetishes, and concessions is still ongoing. The company also outlined a complaints management mechanism and social initiatives planned for the current year, including the construction of boreholes and health infrastructure, and training programs for young people.
