The landlords in Narok town will be required to keep a record of the tenants who occupy their rental houses in a bid to curb cases of insecurity in the town.
Narok County Commissioner Isaac Masinde said already that they have already begun sensitizing the landlords at the K24 estate on the need to keep the register, and the registration of tenants has commenced.
This initiative aims at curbing cases of insecurity in the town following the killing of a 29-year-old surveyor, Lawrence Nkamasiai, who was murdered as he opened the gate to his homestead on Thursday, January 11, 2024.
Masinde called on the landlords to ensure their records were regularly updated with the identification card numbers of their tenants, their occupation, telephone number, and their sex.
‘We regret that some suspicious criminals live among us. By keeping records, we can easily identify those notorious criminals who could live on our premises,’ he said.
The commissioner reiterated that he has held meetings with the boda boda operato
rs, whom he asked to be vigilant of people who hide in their midst to commit crimes.
‘Some criminals hide among the boda boda operators. They pretend to be in that business only to terrorize innocent people in the night hours,’ decried the commissioner.
On this note, Masinde called on the boda boda operators association to keep a record of all the operators in their specific stages who can easily be questioned in case of a crime.
At the same time, Masinde warned the residents against spreading unconfirmed news on social media platforms that could cause unrest in society.
He noted increased incidents of disinformation in social media, warning those who spread such fake news of arrest and prosecution in the court of law.
‘Some people, even notable leaders, are spreading fake news in the social media that causes panic in the society. We want anyone with any information of insecurity to report to the police or my office so that we can take the necessary action,’ reiterated Masinde.
