Marakwet West: MP Timothy Toroitich has called on the department of civil registration to establish a registration centre in Kapcherop, located in the farthest corner of the county, to assist residents in acquiring important government documents. The MP made this plea during a visit to the Iten Huduma centre, highlighting the challenges faced by residents in accessing National Identity cards, as well as birth and death certificates, due to the long distance they must travel.According to Kenya News Agency, Toroitich has engaged with the Principal Secretary in charge to advocate for the new registration centre. He emphasized that residents often have to spend over Sh1,000 to travel to the Iten or Kapsowar offices, a cost that many cannot afford. This expense, coupled with the Sh1000 charge for obtaining documents, poses a significant obstacle for residents, particularly the youth who need IDs for official transactions.Toroitich expressed his willingness to collaborate with the Huduma centre to finance a Hud uma mashinani exercise in Kapcherop, aiming to facilitate the acquisition of these essential documents for residents. Naphtali Korir, the Huduma centre manager, announced plans to extend their services to Kapcherop in the next two weeks. In addition to registration, they will provide all other services offered by the centre.
