Machakos County planted 356,000 trees on Monday during National Tree Planting Day to attain President William Ruro's directive of planting 15 billion trees by 2032.Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko, while speaking at her office on Tuesday, confirmed the figures, stating that each sub-county played a crucial role in achieving that number.She added that each sub-county did their best, and so far, Yatta Sub-County had the largest number of trees planted at 106,000, followed by Masinga Sub-County, where they planted 74,600 trees, then Machakos Sub-County at 48,000 trees, Mwala at 32,871 trees, Kalama at 22,000 trees, Matungulu at 20,000, Athi River at 20,000, Kangundo at 19,772, and Kathiani Sub-County at 12,800 trees.This comes after the presidential directive to make Monday, November 13, a national tree planting day where everyone is required to plant a tree to achieve 15 billion trees by 2032 to improve the environment and also to stop and reverse deforestation.Source: Kenya News Agency
