Man hit and killed by train in Karibib

Police in Erongo are investigating an inquest case after a man’s body was discovered on the railway tracks in Karibib where a train ran over him during the early morning hours of Monday.

It is alleged that the 39-year-old Ronnie Rodney ||Hoëbeb was suspected to have been sleeping on the railway when he was hit by the train at about 02h27.

According to Erongo Community Policing Commander, Inspector Ileni Shapumba in a crime report issued on Monday, the deceased was briefly dragged on the tracks with the front end steel part before the train conductor managed to halt the train.

“The victim was still alive when the conductor got to him, but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter on the scene,” Shapumba noted.

The deceased was employed at a fuel service station, where he reported for duty on Sunday evening, however reportedly left shortly after to go and take a nap at home.

His next of kin have been informed.

In an unrelated incident, a 35-year-old man reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself at a construction site in Walvis Bay where he was employed as a caretaker.

According to the police, the discovery was made by co-workers who came to visit the deceased between 14h00 and 17h35.

The deceased was identified as Stephanus Kinda.

No suicide note was left and no foul play was suspected. His next of kin are informed.

Police will conduct an autopsy to investigate the cause of death.
