Mary Hill Girls High School Embarks on Mount Kenya Hike to Fund Dining Hall Construction

Kiambu: A section of students, teachers, and board of management members of Mary Hill Girls High School have ventured into a challenging journey of hiking Mount Kenya, with the sole purpose of raising about Sh100 million for the construction of their school dining hall. The group has decided to venture into this activity due to the high number of students enrolled compared to the size of the dining hall, which has been in use for decades, forcing some of the students to dine from outside.

According to Kenya News Agency, the school’s infrastructure and development Chairman, Mr. Stephen Muiru, stated that they intend to build a bigger dining hall due to the large number of students in the school. “We wish to have a dining hall that will accommodate all the learners at a go, considering that some of them are forced to eat from outside, which is a great challenge, especially during the current rainy season,” Muiru said.

Mr. Muiru outlined their target to raise Sh20,000 for every metre above sea level hiked, intending to cover 5,000 metres cumulatively to raise a total of Sh100,000,000. He urged members of the public and corporate bodies to support the school’s cause to realise their dream. Muiru acknowledged the potential challenges during the hike, especially due to the rainy season, but emphasized their determination to ensure the school secures a dining hall that accommodates all students.

Mary Hill Girls High School, situated in Kiambu County, is a national government school known for its performance in national examinations and student discipline standards.
