A Murang'a court on Thursday sentenced a middle aged man to serve a two-year jail term for stealing his neighbour's goat.Senior Resident Magistrate Erick Analo declined a request by the accused Ephantus Irungu, 33, that he be committed to non-custodial sentence after the court established he was a repeat offender.Irungu had pleaded guilty on charges of stealing a goat worth Sh. 15, 000, property of Peter Mburu on September 3 at Ndutuni village in Murang'a East Sub County. The court had ordered for a probation report before making the ruling where it was established Irungu had a record of stealing. In mitigation, he pleaded for forgiveness promising to change his behaviour, a plea that was objected by the prosecution on grounds that he had committed several similar offences in the past. The magistrate said the two-year jail term will serve as a deterrent and help Irungu to reform.Source: Kenya News Agency
