Mombasa Derby: Stars Extend Winning Streak Against Elites

Mombasa Elite suffered their thirteenth defeat in the National Super League (NSL) season at KPA Mbaraki Sports Club Saturday, losing 2-0 to rival Mombasa Stars.

Mombasa Stars’ goals came from Samson Karisa and Alvin Ngoto, who scored in the first and second halves respectively to secure the win.

Samson Karisa was the first to score minutes into the final kick of the first half, a stunning header past Richard Ebenyo, Mombasa Elite Goal Keeper.

Alvin Ngoto, on loan from Bandari FC, extended Mombasa Stars’ lead one minute into the second half in his debut match.

Hussein Mohammed ‘Madaga’, Mombasa Stars coach, stated that his opponent was difficult to play against, but he was grateful to God for winning such an important match.

‘All the players fought hard to ensure that we won this match. When it came to the new two players that started the match, we needed to assess their match fitness.

Looking at Magige today, he was so composed in the midfield while Alvin Ngoto scored,’ Madaga stated.

On his part, Momb
asa Elite coach Patrick Nyale said his team’s failure to capitalize on opportunities led to their defeat.

‘If you look at them (Mombasa Stars) in and out of the box, they were better defensively and offensively. We did not give them enough pressure and that was where I was disappointed very much,’ Nyale explained.

Mombasa Stars are presently 11th in the standings after 20 matches, with 26 points, while Mombasa Elite are 17th, with 19 points, after playing the same number of matches.
