Murang'a county assembly approved the review of placement of MCAs to the House Business and Rules committee. While moving the motion, the leader of majority, Francis Kibe said that reshuffling the members of different committees is necessary as it would give MCAs who have not had a chance to be in any committee the opportunity to be in one.'There are members who have been in this house but have not been in any of these committees for a whole year,' Kibe said.'Reviewing the placement of members of the assembly to the House Business and Rules committee should be done annually,' He added. The motion was seconded by Kinyona MCA, Liz Muthoni.Gitugi MCA Edwin Mwangi, on his part, urged members not to be spiteful about the reshuffle but work with each other as they support those placed in various committees.'Let us be rational and not have unnecessary animosity because the leader of majority has all the reasons to review the placement and the best we can do is support him,' he said. The legality of the mo tion, which was brought before the assembly as a supplementary order paper, was challenged by Muguru ward MCA Moses Muchiri, who noted that it was illegal and un-procedural for the supplementary order paper to be brought while the sitting is continuing.'Any supplementary order paper should be brought to the house one hour before the commencement of the house sitting, this supplementary order paper was brought to this house as the business of the assembly was continuing,' he said.Muchiri's backlash was however ruled out of order by deputy speaker Moses Gachui. The House Business and Rules Committee will be made up of 17 members while the Committee on selection 10 members.Source: Kenya News Agency
