Over 20,000 tree seedlings were planted in Olkinyei secondary in Narok west Sub County as Narok County celebrated the World Environment Day.Speaking during the event, Governor Patrick Ntutu said the county government had availed 20,000 tree seedlings free of charge and urged the community to plant trees in order to enable the National Government achieve the target of planting 15billion trees by 2032.The Governor said the marking of the World Environment Day had contributed a significant milestone in the protection and restoration of the degraded lands in the region.'Since we started, we have managed to secure Enkongu Enkare springs in Naroosura where we fenced and planted trees. Last year we celebrated world environment day at Enainyieny in Shankoe ward, Kilgoris sub county and today at Olkinyei secondary in Narok west,' he stressed.On his part, Narok County Commissioner, Kipkech Lotiatia said the county targets to plant 400 million trees by 2032 adding Kenyans need to be sensitized on the importance of planting trees and the adverse effects of climate change.The event was also attended by Maasai Mara University Vice Chancellor Professor Peninnah Aloo who presented 3,000 tree seedlings from the institution for planting to mark the day.Source: Kenya News Agency
