National Symbols Campaign activated in Ohangwena

Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Peya Mushelenga officially launched the regional campaign for national symbols in the Ohangwena Region on Monday.

The launch started with a march from the Eenhana Central Business District to Haimbili Haufiku Senior Secondary School, where the official event took place.

The National Symbols Campaign falls under the Nationhood and National Pride Programme and is aimed at educating the public on the correct use of the national symbols and observation of the applicable standard protocols, as well as promoting their use.

In his remarks, Mushelenga said the National Symbols Campaign extends beyond flags and anthems, and is a platform for fostering unity, celebrating diversity, and collaborating towards a brighter future.

“Let us seize this opportunity to activate the power of our national symbols, to ignite the flames of unity in Ohangwena Region and throughout Namibia. The national flag is an important trademark for the sovereignty of an established republic, while the national anthem articulates the history and attributes of the country and nation,” he said.

Mushelenga further stated that when citizens are patriotic, they unite in pursuit of shared objectives and a collective destiny. He emphasised that unity entails recognising that all individuals are stakeholders, collaborating to confront challenges, seize opportunities, and forge a better future for themselves and future generations.

“When we stand united we transcend our differences, shun negativism and embrace the power of collaboration,” Mushelenga said.

He added that such unity consolidates people into a formidable force, poised for greater accomplishments.

Ultimately, Mushelenga said the National Symbols Campaign serves as a vehicle through which Namibia will be transformed into a greater Namibian nation.
