Ndaraweta Girls Wins Bomet Central School Games


For the first time, Ndaraweta Girls High School has triumphed in football, posting an impressive performance during the Bomet Central Sub County School Games, held at Chepngaina playground over the past weekend.

The school will now compete in the Bomet County Secondary Schools Term Two Games, scheduled to take place from July 3rd-5th at the Itembe Secondary playground.

The team’s morale remains high, having been crowned champions after beating Chepngaina 2-1 in a thrilling sub-county finals, their first-ever football title.

Jalody Chelangat and team captain Shirlyne Cheptoo scored the decisive goals, while Sharon Chepkirui netted a consolation goal for Chepngaina.

This victory is particularly sweet for the Ndaraweta Girls, who have struggled even at the sub-zonal level for years but have now succeeded through the sub-zonal, zonal, and even sub-county levels.

On their way to the finals, they defeated the four-time unbeaten champions, Chebonei Girls Secondary School, with Chepngaina securing a 3-2 win agai
nst Chebonei.

Captain Shirlyne Cheptoo expressed her delight, stating, ‘This win was not easy, but we put all our efforts into achieving this feat, and we are happy to win the title.’

The school also celebrated its first volleyball title, showcasing its growing prowess in multiple sports.

The school principal, Norah Yegon, could not contain her joy as she praised the team for their resilience, discipline, and hard work throughout the tournament. ‘I am happy to have won these two titles, and this shows a sign of good things that are coming our way. We are now preparing for the challenges ahead of us,’ said an elated Mrs. Yegon.

She emphasised the importance of blending academic and co-curricular activities, noting that discipline has been a key factor in their success.

In the semi-finals, Ndaraweta defeated Kabusare Secondary School 2-0, while Chepngaina overcame reigning champions Chebonei 3-2.

In the boys’ football, Tenwek emerged victorious, defeating Kabungut Boys Secondary School 2-0, with goals fro
m Veron Wanjala and Gideon Kipkulei.

Tenwek’s coach, Gideon Kemboi, acknowledged the tough competition, saying they were ready for the county games.

In girls’ volleyball, Ndaraweta Girls continued their dominance by defeating favourites Chebonei 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-20) to claim the championship. Enroute to the finals, they overpowered Sibayian 3-1, while Chebonei defeated Kitaima 3-0 in the other semi-final.

The boys’ volleyball competition saw Tenwek triumph over Singorwet Secondary School 3-0 in the finals, following a 3-1 semi-final win against Mugango. Singorwet had previously eliminated Kabungut with a 3-1 victory.

Chebonei, on the other hand, hammered Ndaraweta Day Secondary School 21-10 in netball to be declared champions. To reach the finals, Chebonei beat Kiplokyi Girls Secondary School 18-15, while Ndaraweta Day narrowly edged out neighbouring Ndaraweta Girls 12-10.

With these impressive wins, Ndaraweta Girls High School is poised to make a significant impact at the upcoming county games, bri
nging newfound glory to their institution and inspiring other schools in the region.
