NGO Donates Motorbikes to Boost Peace Efforts in Mandera

Mandera: In an effort to strengthen peace-building initiatives, an NGO, Interpeace, has donated motorbikes to local peace structures across all sub-counties in Mandera County, aimed at enhancing conflict prevention and promoting lasting harmony in the region.

According to Kenya News Agency, the initiative seeks to enhance mobility and coordination among grassroots peace actors, enabling them to reach remote and hotspot areas where tensions are often reported. The donated motorbikes will help community peace committees conduct outreach and mediation, and enable them to detect early warning signals more effectively.

Speaking during the handing-over ceremony, Interpeace Programme Director, Mahat Omar, said the donation is part of ongoing efforts to promote lasting peace and stability in Mandera through community-led interventions. ‘These motorbikes will help our peace teams reach remote areas quickly, engage communities directly, and respond promptly to any signs of conflict,’ he added.

Peace committee members expressed gratitude, noting that transport challenges have long hindered their efforts to conduct awareness campaigns and respond to emerging disputes in rural areas. ‘Before, it was difficult to move around, but now we can reach every corner of the sub-county to spread peace and resolve issues early,’ said a local peace coordinator.

Nadhifa Ahmed, the CEC Public Service Management, Devolved Units and Community Cohesion, commended Interpeace for its continued support, describing the donation as a timely intervention that will strengthen the county’s grassroots peace mechanisms. The handover marks another milestone in Mandera’s broader efforts to sustain peace, foster unity, and promote coexistence among communities across the region.
