NN announces team for Africa Netball Championships

Netball Namibia (NN) has announced the 15-player squad that will represent the country in Botswana for the Africa Netball Championships at the end of November 2023.

The tournament presents an opportunity for Namibia to showcase its talent and improve its ranking on the African stage.

Netball Namibia in a statement said players from various teams exhibited their skills and dedication in a week-long training camp while vying for a coveted spot in the national team, the Debmarine Desert Jewels.

“The coaching team selected the final squad that will represent Namibia, and NN is pleased to announce that the national team has been selected to participate in the tournament,” it said.

Meanwhile, in the same statement, NN President Rebekka Goagoses expressed her satisfaction with the outcome of the training camp and the team’s readiness to compete in Botswana.

“We are going to compete against the best in Africa as a united Namibian national team,” she said, adding that Africa Netball should be commended for allowing Namibia to compete for the continental crown.

Goagoses also stated that Namibia is eager to participate in the Africa Netball Championships because they want to make a strong impact and demonstrate their dedication to the sport.

“As we prepare for this exciting event, we also hope to secure test series against other nations to further enhance our competitiveness and rankings. This competition would provide the players with the exposure and international game time they need to sharpen their skills. This competition holds particular importance as it will mark the Debmarine Desert Jewels’ first international appearance since January this year,” she said.

The national team squad are Zantè Farmer, Selma Bitller, Anna Shipanga, Venjekerera Maharero, Loide Bokkie Hanyanya, and Monica Gomases for wing attack, wing defence and centres.

Sunshine Murangi, Emmy Junior Kutako, Desdamona Tjirera, and Cornelia Corry Mupenda have been chosen as goal defence and goalkeepers.

Tillie Kamati, Anna Kaspar, Ehenfriede Gola Uahongora, Louise Dreamy Kausehue and Uendjisuvera Kangumine have been selected for goal attack and goal scorers.
