North Rift ODM Leaders Pay Tribute to Raila Odinga


Eldoret: North Rift Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) officials have paid tribute to their party leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who passed away on Wednesday morning in India, while undergoing medication. Speaking to the media in Eldoret, the leaders described Raila as a visionary reformist whose courage and sacrifice shaped Kenya’s democratic journey.

According to Kenya News Agency, ODM Uasin Gishu County Chairperson Kipkorir Menjo read the tributes: “Today, we are gathered to mourn the passing of our party leader, Raila Odinga. The role he played in shaping this nation is immense and unforgettable. He was at the forefront of the reform agenda that gave us the freedoms and democracy we now enjoy,” said Menjo.

Menjo added that ODM remains committed to upholding Raila’s legacy by strengthening the party and protecting the gains achieved under his leadership. “The best way to honour his memory is to ensure that the constitution he fought so hard for is fully respected and implemented,” he said.

lgeyo Marakwet County ODM Chairperson John Chebii also expressed deep sorrow, describing Raila as a selfless leader: “Let us honour his memory by following in his footsteps. He dedicated his life to doing good for this country and his legacy will live on through the values he stood for,” Chebii said.

On his part, Uasin Gishu ODM Vice-Chair Andrew Ouma praised Raila’s lifelong contribution to democracy and justice. “Thank you, Baba, for everything you did for this country. Though some of us may find it hard to come to terms with your departure, we take comfort in knowing that your spirit will continue to guide us as we fulfill your dream for this great nation,” he said.

Uasin Gishu County ODM Elections Chairperson Cole Kosgei described Raila as a pan-Africanist whose influence extended beyond Kenya. “We have lost a great icon – a democrat, a nationalist and a proud pan-Africanist. His vision inspired unity and progress across Africa,” Kosgei said, urging ODM members and Kenyans to remain united in his honour

Earlier in the day, sections of Eldoret City broke into peaceful demonstrations as residents took to the streets to mourn the late ODM leader Raila Odinga, who passed on at the age of 80. Following the death, President Dr. William Ruto announced seven days of national mourning to honour Raila Odinga, directing that flags be flown at half-mast across the country during this period.
