Kisumu: The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has assured the public that they have implemented strategies to prevent road accidents during the upcoming festive season.According to Kenya News Agency, Nyanza NTSA Regional Manager Isaac Silahi revealed that the authority is taking proactive steps to address the increase in road accidents typically observed during Christmas and New Year celebrations.Silahi stated that the NTSA, in collaboration with the National Police Service, will continue to conduct compliance checks to ensure that speed governors on Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) and heavy commercial vehicles are functioning properly. He emphasized the importance of ongoing road safety campaigns and forums aimed at educating the public about essential safety practices. Silahi highlighted that pedestrians are currently the most affected group in road accidents, followed by motorcyclists, and stressed the need for collective efforts to reduce these numbers.Speaking in Kisumu, Silahi urged d rivers of both private and public service vehicles to exercise caution and contribute to reducing road accidents. He advised motorists to be particularly mindful of other road users, avoid speeding, and adhere to safe driving practices, noting that speeding accounts for over 40% of road fatalities. Silahi also called for responsible behavior from drivers and urged pedestrians to be vigilant, avoid distractions like phone use while crossing roads, and for passengers to consistently wear safety belts.
