The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party, has given 14 days' ultimatum to the Inspector General of Police to take action against alleged perpetrators of fracas that disrupted a bursary forms distribution event by Kisii County Governor Simba Arati, in South Mugirango recently.The incident happened after Governor Arati had gone to distribute bursaries, Monday, in Nyakembene Ward this week and while addressing the public, the meeting was disrupted with gun shots and teargas, leaving several people with injuries, as the Governor ran for his life.Addressing the press outside Kisii DCI Office, in Kisii town this morning, Nairobi Senator and ODM Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, said the party was concerned over the safety of its National Vice Chair, Mr. Arati, following repeated attacks by known persons.Sifuna demanded that action be taken as the matter had been reported at Kisii Central Police Station, accusing the security apparatus of being silent on the matter.Sifuna urged the police, to investigate a local politician and some police officers, for perpetrating the violence.Sifuna also highlighted the past event in South Mugirango, where Governor Arati, was attacked while attending a burial ceremony in the same Constituency.He called for action to be taken within the next 14 days, failure to which the Party will pursue other avenues, to ensure law and order in Kisii.'In the meantime, I wish to state that should any harm befall to the Party's National chairperson, as a result of any subsequent attack against him, the persons named here, will be held personally responsible,' said Sifuna.Source: Kenya News Agency
