Kisii: Governor Simba Arati has applauded President Dr. William Ruto for seeking to strengthen the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), ahead of the 2027 General Elections. Speaking during this year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Marani grounds in Marani Sub County, Arati, who is also ODM’s Deputy Party leader, urged the president to consider registering as a party member, suggesting that this move would assist the party in fulfilling the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s vision of having a strong party for easier delivery of services to the people.
According to Kenya News Agency, the governor cautioned those with contrary opinions, stating that the party plans to front a presidential candidate to either form the next government or be part of the winning coalition in the upcoming election. Kisii County Commissioner (CC) Joseph Kibet also addressed the gathering, expressing concern over low voter registration turnout and urging eligible residents to register before the deadline. He issued a stern warning to those involved in drug trafficking and the sale of illicit brews, emphasizing that the government would address these issues in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, Kisii residents joined other Kenyans in mourning the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, as the national flag was flown at half-mast during Mashujaa Day Celebrations, following a presidential directive. Both the governor and the CC led the residents in observing a moment of silence after entertainment events, most of which commemorated the late former premier.
Governor Arati highlighted that the nation would continue to celebrate Raila’s life, describing him as a visionary leader, a champion of democracy, and a beacon of hope for millions of Kenyans. He remarked that Raila’s passing leaves an indelible mark in the nation’s history due to his unwavering dedication to justice, democracy, and unity. Arati emphasized that Raila was not only a politician but also a symbol of courage in adversity, a voice for the marginalized, and a tireless advocate for equity and fairness.
The governor praised Raila’s wisdom, mentorship, and steadfast integrity as guiding lights for those nurtured by him. He affirmed that ODM would commit to carrying forward Raila’s dream, embracing the call for unity that he passionately championed.
