Parliament makes arrangements for 147th IPU General Assembly

National Assembly (NA) is preparing the conditions to host the 147th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in October this year.

In order to ensure the success of the arrangements, the Parliament set up on Tuesday a commission coordinated by the Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira.

The team comprises MP Idalina Valente as deputy coordinator, while MP Kilamba Van-dúnem is the coordinator of the Executive Secretariat, also including the 2nd Vice Speaker of the National Assembly, Arleth Chimbinda.

The organisation of this event is based on an agreement signed between the National Assembly and the IPU Secretariat in March 2023 in Manama, the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The parties have committed to promote exchange through solidarity, concert and dialogue, for the well-being and improvement of the social conditions of the populations.

At the time, the Speaker of National Assembly took the responsibility and commitment, once again, to dignify the country, by holding an event that represents the Angolan Parliament in the regional and international event.

Carolina Cerqueira assured that the human, material and technical conditions were being created, with a dynamic, participative and committed human staff and members of Parliament, who will convey the experience of the organisation.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union is made up of 178 national parliaments and 12 regional assemblies. It is currently the main parliamentary interlocutor for the United Nations.
