Over 2,000 residents of Murunyu in Lanet Umoja ward, Bahati Sub County, are set to benefit from the Murunyu Borehole Project.
The project will provide them with clean, piped drinking water directly to their homes. This initiative addresses the long-standing issue of water scarcity in the area.
The project is a key part of the Nakuru County government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and reliable water supply for the community. Until now, residents have depended on unreliable water vendors, which has led to numerous hardships and health risks.
Bahati Sub-County Water Officer Jane Nginyo underscored the importance of the project, noting that the borehole would benefit not only the residents but also the local educational institutions.
The new water source promises to improve living conditions and health outcomes for the entire community.
Lanet Ward MCA Mwangi Ngarama commended Governor Kihika’s efforts to tackle water shortages in Nakuru County and urged residents to utilize the government-funded projects
responsibly to ensure the community benefits as a whole.
During the handover of the project site, key officials, including Ward Administrator Murugi Kinga’ng’i, the Ward Coordinator, and members of the Project Management Committee, were present to witness this significant advancement in water accessibility for Murunyu.
However, some environmentalists have termed the numerous boreholes in the county in the midst of climate change, as endangering the lives of residents.
Due to the continued sinking of boreholes, a number of areas were affected by the recent floods because the loose volcanic soils had made the fault lines weaker.
