Security officers in Upper Nyakach division of Kisumu County have recovered five herds of cattle stolen from a homestead in the area.
A joint operation carried out by the Anti-Stock Police Unit (ASTU) and local administration led by Upper Nyakach Assistant County Commissioner Dawin Orina led to the recovery.
Orina said the officers swung into action at 4 am on Wednesday after the incident was reported at Kagak village.
‘The area assistant chief received a call from Mr. John Omondi that three cows belonging to him had been stolen. Police officers at Ogoro Police Station informed their ASTU counterparts and tracking began,’ he said.
The team, he said, tracked the animals for close to six hours before they were found in the Soin-Sigowet area in Kericho County.
‘We managed to recover the three heads of cattle which had been stolen alongside two others whose owner we are yet to identify. They have been handed over to the ASTU officers awaiting to be handed over to the owners,’ he said.

umu and Kericho counties has witnessed a sharp rise in cases of cattle rustling fueling conflict between the two communities residing in the area.
Orina asked the community to remain vigilant and volunteer information to security agencies to ensure that those involved in the vice are apprehended.
The government, he added, will take stern action against anybody found culpable to ensure that the life and property of the community is protected.
