Power outage in Centre region tomorrowEthiopians Arrested In Makueni For Being In Kenya Illegally

The Minister of Water Resources and Energy, Gaston Eloundou Essomba, announced that the Center Region of Cameroon will have a disruption in its supply of electricity on Sunday January 7, 2024.

He made the announcement through a release signed on Friday January 5, 2024.

According to the release, power will be disrupted on Sunday from 6 am to 6 pm. He says this is part of the imminent commissioning of the Nachtigal hydroelectric dam, as announced by the Head of State in his address to the nation on 31 December 2023, major work will be carried out at the 225/90/15 kV Oyomabang substation.

‘The government’s objective in carrying out this work is to ensure the safe evacuation of power produced by the Nachtigal dam, by connecting the Nyom 2 substation, from which the power is received, to the Oyomabang substation for distribution to the grid,’ Minister Eloundou said.

He further stated that; ‘ The safe completion of this work will require the removal of certain major electricity transmission facilities, in part
icular the 225 kV MangombĂ©-Nkolkoumou-Oyomabang line, the 90 kV Oyomabang- Ngousso line and the 225/90/15 kV Oyomabang substation. All of which will lead to disruptions in the supply of electricity in some neighbourhoods in and around the city of YaoundĂ©,’.

Police in Makindu have arrested 47 Ethiopian nationals and a driver for being in the country illegally at Makindu town in Makueni County.

Makindu Subcounty police commander Jashon Polloh said the foreigners were arrested at Rubis Petrol Station near Makindu town along the Nairobi – Mombasa highway on Saturday morning.

‘We received information that there were people who came out of a container and we rushed there and managed to arrest 47 Ethiopians and the driver,’ Polloh said while speaking to the Press in Makindu.

Polloh said the illegal immigrants were on transit heading to Mombasa.

‘They were travelling in a truck and might have navigated on their way from the Kenyan border and managed to reach here but due to the situation inside the container it became unbearable to them hence when they reached Rubis petrol station near Makindu town maybe they were complaining and the vehicle stopped probably to allow them come out to get fresh air or so,’ he added.

Polloh said all the suspects have been placed in
lawful police custody in Makindu police station and investigations are going on.

He said the truck and the container have also been taken to the police station.

The suspects will be arraigned in court once the investigations are completed.
