The Quickmart supermarket has opened its 60th branch in Narok town which is expected to employ thousands of residents.Speaking during the opening of the new branch dubbed 'Moran Quickmart', Narok Governor Patrick Ntutu said 7, 000 people will be employed in the supermarket hence reducing the number of unemployed youths in the county.He called on the supermarket's management to ensure that over 90 percent of their employees originated from Narok County, confirming that the county had many youth professionals who were not employed.'We believe our county has enough professionals to work in the supermarket. I request the management to consider training and employing the local community so that they too can benefit from the outlet,' he said.Ole Ntutu further appealed to the management to source farm produce from the local farmers as the county is rich in food and animal products.Narok County Commissioner Reuben Lotatia, who also attended the grand opening ceremony, cautioned the management against sellin g illicit brew on the premises.Quickmart Chief Marketing Officer Betty Wamaitha said the supermarket has facelifted the look of Narok town as the mega mall is built along the Narok-Bomet highway.Wamaitha announced a price drop for all items until the end of this month, calling on the Narok residents to take advantage of the prices to do shopping.The entity is set to offer direct employment opportunities to 7,000 staff and shall target fresh farm produce delivery from over 14,500 farmers in the County.Source: Kenya News Agency
